Overview

The NX-8 is the mid-size panel in the Caddx NetworX range, and the NX-8V2 is its later revision, sold under the GE and Interlogix names. Both handle up to 48 zones across 8 partitions, which made them a popular choice for larger homes and small businesses. Operation and programming are the same as on the rest of the NetworX family. If you need more zones or users, the NX-8E is the bigger panel.

NX-8 or NX-8E?

The NX-8E adds capacity (192 zones and 240 users), two on-board relays, fire alarm verification, a dynamic battery test and an RS-232 port. Keypads, receivers and most modules work with both. Check the label inside the cabinet; the model is printed on the circuit board.

Error Codes

A lit Service light means a trouble. Press * 2, and zone lights 1–8 show the type:

  1. System fault
  2. Zone tamper
  3. Wireless low battery
  4. Wireless supervision loss
  5. Zone trouble
  6. Phone line fault
  7. Failure to communicate
  8. Clock needs setting

The NetworX service light guide covers each one, including setting the clock after a power cut (the usual cause of light 8).

Troubleshooting

Beeping after a power cut

Enter your code to silence the keypad, then press * 2. If light 8 is on, set the clock: * 9 7, master code, then the 24-hour time as four digits. A flashing Power light means the backup battery is low. If it stays low a day after power returns, the battery needs replacing. See replacing a panel backup battery.

Smoke detector or fire trouble

Press * 7 while disarmed to reset smoke detectors and clear zone troubles and tampers. If the keypad beeps, the reset did not take. Wait a few minutes and try again.

No more phone line

NX-8 panels were usually installed to report over a landline. Without one, the panel shows a communication or phone trouble. The NetworX NX-592E cellular and NX-595E IP modules are listed for the NX-8. Many dealers now add a third-party cellular communicator or replace the panel.

Wireless sensors

Wireless needs a receiver: an NX-548E or an NX-148E-RF keypad. Both use the 319.5 MHz ITI/GE/Interlogix sensors. A sensor that keeps reporting lost should be deleted and learned in again, then checked for a signal strength of 6 or more.

Installation Notes

  • Default codes: master (user 1) 1234; go to program code 9713. Six-digit options are 123456 and 971300.
  • Program mode: press * 8, enter the go to program code, then 0 # for the panel. Enter a location and #, and press * to save each segment. Press Exit to leave.
  • Enrolling: on leaving program mode, the panel finds and supervises all keypads and modules on the bus. This takes about 12 seconds, and codes are not accepted during it.
  • User codes: press * 5, the master code, the two-digit user number, then the new code; press # to finish. In partitioned systems, keep one code with access to every partition.
  • Partitions: each zone can be assigned to any combination of the 8 partitions. To view another partition from a keypad temporarily, press * 1 and the partition number (if enabled).

FAQs

How do I tell an NX-8 from an NX-8V2?

The model is printed on the circuit board inside the metal cabinet. The keypads look the same. The V2 is the later revision, and the NX-8V2 manuals apply to most NX-8 panels too. The original NX-8 manual is linked above for older boards.

What is the installer code for a Caddx NX-8?

The factory go to program code is 9713, entered after * 8. Installers often changed it.
