Overview
The DSC MAXSYS PC4020 is a commercial control platform with 16 on-board supervised zones, expandable to 128 zones through Combus modules, two addressable detection loops, and wireless receivers. It integrates burglary, access control, automation, and residential fire functions in one panel programmed primarily through DLS2002+ and LCD4500/LCD4501 keypads.

What the PC4020 Does Well
MAXSYS targets mid-market commercial and high-end residential: retailers, schools, industrial sites, and multi-partition buildings. Combus simplifies expansion without reworking the core panel. Addressable loops cut wire home runs for large floors. Integrated access control shares user codes and partitions with intrusion. T-Link TL-250/TL-300 IP reporting rides existing LAN infrastructure with AES encryption options.
Before You Service or Replace One
- Confirm PC4020 vs PC4020CF (commercial fire)—fire programming and loops differ.
- Inventory Combus module map (PC41xx, PC4216, PC4204, PC4820, PC4850, PC4702) before swapping the board.
- Run diagnostics ref
[04]to identify E (comms), T (tamper), or LV (low voltage) faults by module number. - MAXSYS is not PowerSeries Keybus—PK5500/RF5132 parts do not apply.
- Use Battery Standby Calculation Chart (DSC part 29003350) for listed standby times.
- Factory default
[0402]wipes all programming—only within first 10 minutes after power-up.

Installation Notes
These notes summarize the PC4020 v3.5 Installation Manual. Full programming uses DLS2002 or higher; keypad installer access is **[*, 8, installer code]** with reference numbers.
Pre-Install Checklist
- Plan 128-zone capacity: on-board 16 + PC4108A/PC4116 + addressable loops + PC4164 wireless.
- Map 8 partitions, keypad global vs partition assignment, and account codes.
- Calculate Combus legs (max 4 × 1,000 ft) and 500 mA bus budget—plan PC4204 repower if needed.
- Select LCD4501 v2.0+ (function keys) or LCD4500 v2.02+ for function key support.
- For fire installs, confirm PC4020CF manual and PC4701 fire phone line requirements.
- Complete all wiring before connecting battery or transformer (connect battery before AC).
Power and Ground
| Output | Rating |
|---|---|
| Auxiliary power | 12 VDC, 500 mA continuous max |
| Switched auxiliary (SAUX+) | 12 VDC, 300 mA max (4-wire smokes) |
| PGM 1 & 2 | 50 mA each standard; 170 mA each when configured as addressable loops |
| Combus power | 500 mA maximum |
| Bell output | Supervised; expand with PC4702 (up to 8 outputs) |
- Earth ground connection required at panel—follow grounding diagram.
- Maintain power-limited wiring separation per manual.
Combus Wiring
- 4-wire non-shielded station wire; do not use shielded cable.
- Up to 4 bus legs, each up to 1,000 ft (305 m).
- Enroll modules in programming after physical install; record addresses on worksheets.
- PC4204 / PC4204CX provides relay outputs and optional Combus repower.
Zone Wiring
- 16 on-board zones supervised; expand with PC4108A (8 zones) and PC4116 (16 zones).
