Overview

The IQ Remote PowerG is Qolsys's secondary touchscreen: a 7-inch Android keypad that gives a second room the same arming, sensor status and smart home controls as the main IQ panel. It connects to the panel either over PowerG, Qolsys's encrypted 915 MHz sensor radio, or over your home Wi-Fi.

It replaces the original IQ Remote, which was Wi-Fi only. Qolsys has announced end of life for the original.

Troubleshooting

Never just pull the power

Qolsys warns that removing all power without shutting down can corrupt the software. To power down:

  1. Hold the power button for 2 seconds.
  2. Choose Power Down and confirm.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, then disconnect power.

Moving it to another room? Unplugging the adapter while leaving the battery connected is safe.

Frozen or misbehaving screen

Hold the power button for 2 seconds and choose Power Reboot.

Lost connection to the panel

  • PowerG-paired: check the PowerG signal in the settings tray. Move the remote or the panel if it's Poor.
  • Wi-Fi-paired: after a router or password change, reconnect the remote and the panel to the new network. Consider re-pairing over PowerG so it stops depending on Wi-Fi.
  • Settings → About shows battery, software, PowerG and Wi-Fi details for troubleshooting.

Battery replacement

Power it down properly, lift it off the back plate, unscrew the battery door, and pull the fabric tab to remove the cell. Fit the replacement with the tab underneath. Use only the battery type Qolsys specifies. Never use a screwdriver near the cell.

Compatible Peripherals

  • Panels: the IQ Panel 4 family (IQ Panel 4, IQ4 Hub, IQ4 NS), running software 4.6 or later for PowerG pairing. Check newer panels such as the IQ Panel 5 with your dealer.
  • Other keypads: IQ Keypad PG (button keypad).

PowerG or Wi-Fi pairing?

PowerG is the more reliable choice, because the keypad keeps working through router changes and internet outages.

Pairing over PowerG

  1. On the main panel, start the PowerG auto-learn process (or enter the device ID, which starts 380-, manually).
  2. On the IQ Remote PowerG enrollment screen, choose PowerG pair.
  3. The panel recognizes it. Set its options on the panel; the remote then shows its home screen.
  4. Run a PowerG signal test from the panel. You want Strong or Good at the mounting spot; Qolsys requires Strong for listed installs.

Pairing over Wi-Fi

  1. Connect the remote to the same Wi-Fi network as the panel: swipe down → Settings → installer code → Wi-Fi.
  2. Start Wi-Fi pairing for an IQ Remote on the main panel.
  3. Press Wi-Fi Pair on the remote. It connects and installs any software update.

Mounting

  • Pull the battery tab, plug the adapter into the barrel jack, and hold the power button for 3 seconds to start it.
  • Fit the top screw so the remote can't be lifted off the back plate.
  • Keep the power supply in the same room. On a custom wire run, Qolsys allows 18 AWG for up to about 98 ft.
