Overview
The 6160RF combines three things in one wall unit:
- a standard 6160 alphanumeric keypad
- a 5881H-class receiver for Honeywell 5800-series wireless sensors
- a transmitter module for two-way devices such as wireless keypads and two-way key fobs
It's the simplest way to add wireless to a wired VISTA system: replace a keypad and you have a receiver too, with no separate module in the cabinet.
At a glance

|---|---|
| Wireless | 5800-series transmitters, 345 MHz; nominal receiving range about 200 ft (some transmitters less) |
| Two-way devices | 5804BD key fobs, 5828 wireless keypads and similar |
| Wiring | Four wires to the keypad (ECP) bus: red +12 V, black ground, green data in, yellow data out |

Troubleshooting
Wireless zones show CHECK or don't learn in
- Make sure the receiver is enabled in the keypad's setup, and only one receiver is enabled on the system.
- Check that the keypad is at least 10 ft from the panel.
- Replace the transmitter's battery, and confirm its serial number matches the zone programming.
- Use the panel's transmitter sniffer or Go/No-Go test to check signal from the sensor's mounting spot.
See VISTA CHECK messages and sensor low battery.
Keypad lights up but doesn't talk to the panel
It's at address 31 or an address the panel hasn't enabled. Re-enter setup with 1 + 3 at power-up and set a valid address.
Compatible Peripherals
- Panels: VISTA panels that support 5800 wireless, including the VISTA-20P, VISTA-21iP and VISTA-128BPT.
- Wireless devices: Honeywell 5800-series sensors, key fobs, and 5828 wireless keypads.
- Alternatives: a 5881 receiver module, if you'd rather keep your existing keypads.
Installation Notes
Placement
- Mount it at least 10 ft from the control panel. The panel's electronics interfere with the receiver if it's closer.
- Choose a central spot so the furthest sensors are within range. Basements and metal cabinets cut range.
- Only one receiver should be enabled per system. If a 5881 receiver or another RF keypad is already enabled, leave the 6160RF's receiver off.
Setting the address and enabling the receiver
- Power it up, then within the first minute press and hold 1 and 3 together to enter the keypad's setup mode.
- Enter the keypad address. The default is 31, which won't work on VISTA-P panels; use an address the panel has enabled, such as 16–23 on a VISTA-20P.
- At the receiver prompt, enter 1 to enable the receiver, only if this keypad is to be the system's receiver.
- Save and exit, then enable the keypad's address in the panel's device programming.
The wireless zones themselves are programmed in the panel, exactly as with any 5800 receiver: zone type, input type and the transmitter's serial number.
FAQs
How far from the panel should a 6160RF be?
At least 10 ft, per Honeywell's installation guide, so the panel does not interfere with the receiver.
Can I have two 6160RF keypads?
Yes, but enable the receiver on only one of them. The second works as an ordinary keypad.
