Qolsys IQ Motion-S

The Qolsys IQ Motion-S (part QS1231-840) is a wireless passive infrared motion detector from Qolsys's S-Line family. It uses the encrypted 319.5 MHz radio, so it works with IQ panels that support S-Line sensors. On the newer IQ Panel 5, that means fitting the IQ Card-319.

False alarms

• Check the height. Below 7.5 ft, pets can set it off.
• Look for heat sources and moving air in its view: heating vents, sunny windows, fans, curtains in a draft.
• Cats that jump onto furniture or stairs can reach the detector's view regardless of pet immunity.

Low battery or tamper alerts

Replace both AAA batteries. A tamper alert means the case isn't fully closed or the detector was removed from its mount. Close it firmly and clear the alert at the panel. See Qolsys IQ panel alerts.

• Panels: Qolsys IQ panels with S-Line (319.5 MHz) support, such as the IQ Panel 4 with the matching daughter card, or the IQ Panel 5 with an IQ Card-319.
• Other S-Line sensors: IQ Door/Window-S, IQ Glass-S, IQ Flood-S.

Where to put it

• Mount it 7.5 ft high. Pet immunity depends on the correct height; mounted lower, a pet can trip it.
• Outside walls pointing into the room are good locations.
• Don't point it at windows or at ceiling fans, and keep it away from HVAC ducts and drapes. Moving air and sunlight cause false alarms.
• Aim it so intruders would walk across its view, not straight toward it. PIRs detect movement across their zones best.

Learning it into the panel

1. Open the case and pull the battery tab.
2. On the IQ panel, start Auto Learn.
3. Open and close the case to trip the tamper. The panel picks it up.
4. Name it, choose its settings, and touch Add.
5. Mount it, then walk-test it.
