Overview

The ADT Smart Home Hub and Security System Base power ADT Self-Setup and Blue by ADT DIY systems — battery wireless sensors, Z-Wave automation, and the ADT+ app for arming, notifications, and optional professional monitoring.

The panel or hub is the center of your ADT system: arming state, wireless sensor supervision, local siren, and communication to ADT for app notifications and professional monitoring all flow through it. Cameras and doorbells appear in the ADT+ or ADT Control app but intrusion sensors require a compatible Command panel or Self-Setup hub.

Self-Setup / Blue by ADT systems are app-first (ADT+). ADT Command panels also use the ADT Control app but may require installer/dealer programming for zones, dialer, and advanced options.

What This Hub Does Well

See summary above — the panel/hub coordinates arming, wireless supervision, local siren, and cloud connectivity for the entire ADT location.

Before You Service or Replace One

  • Exact platformADT Command (SiX) vs Self-Setup hub (ADT+) — sensors are not interchangeable without verification.
  • Location in app — devices belong to an ADT account/location; swapping hubs may require re-enrollment.
  • Monitoring account — ADT professional monitoring status, permits, and emergency contacts.
  • Network — Wi-Fi credentials, cellular module (CellBridge), and ISP outage history.
  • Accessory mix — confirm Command vs Self-Setup compatibility in help.adt.com before ordering replacements.

Compatible Peripherals

This page lists what this product works with in the ADT ecosystem — not generic third-party alarm panels unless explicitly stated in ADT help.adt.com support.

Host compatibility

Host / ecosystemHow it connects
Self-setup door/window and motion sensorsHub enrollment via ADT+ app
Indoor siren and keypadWireless peripherals on same hub
Z-Wave Yale locks and modulesAutomation when supported on plan
ADT Range ExtenderExtends sensor RF when hub is distant

Not compatible / common mistakes

  • Command SiX sensors on Self-Setup hub without explicit compatibility
  • Professional Command panel programming menus — Self-Setup is app-first

Replacement guidance

  • Match generation and SKU on the product label before ordering.
  • After replacement, remove old device from app and add new hardware — Z-Wave IDs do not transfer.
  • Document device name and placement in app for end-user support.
  • For monitored accounts, run test mode per ADT monitoring plan instructions after swap.
