Overview

ADT Self-Setup or Blue by ADT program page — overview of DIY installation, hub requirements, and monitoring options.

The panel or hub is the center of your ADT system: arming state, wireless sensor supervision, local siren, and communication to ADT for app notifications and professional monitoring all flow through it. Cameras and doorbells appear in the ADT+ or ADT Control app but intrusion sensors require a compatible Command panel or Self-Setup hub.

Self-Setup / Blue by ADT systems are app-first (ADT+). ADT Command panels also use the ADT Control app but may require installer/dealer programming for zones, dialer, and advanced options.

What This Hub Does Well

See summary above — the panel/hub coordinates arming, wireless supervision, local siren, and cloud connectivity for the entire ADT location.

Before You Service or Replace One

  • Exact platformADT Command (SiX) vs Self-Setup hub (ADT+) — sensors are not interchangeable without verification.
  • Location in app — devices belong to an ADT account/location; swapping hubs may require re-enrollment.
  • Monitoring account — ADT professional monitoring status, permits, and emergency contacts.
  • Network — Wi-Fi credentials, cellular module (CellBridge), and ISP outage history.
  • Accessory mix — confirm Command vs Self-Setup compatibility in help.adt.com before ordering replacements.

Error Codes

ADT products report faults through the ADT+ or ADT Control app device status and device event history — not traditional numeric keypad codes like hardwired alarm panels.

How to read status

  1. Open ADT+ or ADT Control appMenuAlarm (or device tile for cameras).
  2. Tap device status or the device — note Offline, Tampered, Low Battery, Open.
  3. Tap the fault for ADT's suggested steps and linked help.adt.com articles.
  4. For hub issues, check Command panel / Self-Setup hub connectivity first — many "sensor offline" faults are mesh or hub internet issues.
